~Some Seasons~

Alydia Bryant

We all know that there are seasons in life. Those Valleys...Storms.....Mountain tops. Sometimes we want to just sprint through them and never look back. If we do that we might find ourselves there again. We don't grow or be come better. We don't get stronger. Last year was a hard year. I don't need to go into details but the point is I wouldn't take ANY of it back! I don't have this next season of my life figured out but I know Its going to be GREAT! I have surrounded my self by individuals who are making me better! Who are encouraging me! Who are investing in me! It doesn't matter where you came from! It matters where you are going.

Strength Isn't just about being physically strong! It is way more! It is a community of people who who desire to see you be better. It is about overcoming obstacles and hardships and coming out stronger then you were before. Over the last few weeks I have been overwhelmed (in a good way) by the encouragement I have received. At Brentwood today, Jon Dupin shared a clip from his favorite season of The Voice. Pharrel Williams, Is shown encouraging one artist after the other. "Pay attention to Defining moments", "No means work harder", "Find the Undeniably yes in your life", "Fight the good fight", "Embrace your Individuality", "Do it of you." I want to be that person who encourages you through your struggles. I want to help you see the potential you have in life! We live in a world that likes to define us by our circumstances. Can we stop that! Lets be who we want to be and lets relentlessly pursue that.

We have a tendency to believe lies that prevent us from ever achieving the goals we want to achieve. Lies like:

  1. No Capacity-I am to busy, there is no time.
  2. No Confidence-crippled by fear.
  3. No Competence- I don't have the right skills yet.
  4. No Calling-Its not for me... someone else will do it.
  5. No Care- it doesn't mean enough to you

In Matthew 28:19 God didn't tell his disciples to go get ready to make disciples. He told them to GO! GO now! "You do not have to arrive before you can advise"~Jon Dupin. You are ready! Trust your judgement! Seek out mentors and strive for greatness!

Becoming Limitless~ The Dome of Strength

Alydia Bryant

This weekend I had the time of my life! I know a lot of people out there probably think I'm crazy that I sign up for something where I have to work out off and on for 8-10 hours in a day. Its so worth it in the end and you see your body do things that you couldn't imagine. I am passionate about getting stronger but I'm more passionate about feeling good. Dave Whitley defines good technique as "what ever is physiologically correct for the individual and moves them in the direction of their goal." We are all built differently and some of us have limitations due to injury or birth defects but that doesn't mean we can't be strong. It just might mean our strong will look differently. At StrongFirst we strive to define certain skills in a way that is safe and efficient. What ever that technique may be it shouldn't be painful.  I've learned through out my career that people chase pain! I'm sure you have heard the phrase "no pain, no gain." Let me tell you that is the biggest lie I have ever heard! Doc Hartle said this weekend "We like our spines, we LOVE our spines. You only get one of them so don't screw it up."

So here is my question for you: Is it really worth the pain and the risk of getting "stronger" if you are constantly getting hurt? I don't think so! If you constantly train at your limit or at 90-100% effort you will get hurt! "If you constantly train at the edge of your limit then you will eventually hit your limit. But if you train yourself away from the limit you are training yourself to be limitless" ~The Iron Tamer Dave Whitley

This lesson was so vital in my training! Its how i was able to increase my bent press by 150% in just 5 weeks! 5 weeks ago I could only bent press 16 kg. But with patience, practice, and proper mechanics I was able to get the 40kg. And I plan to get the 44 in the next few weeks. I don't go 100% effort all the time. I rest! I integrated light, medium, and heavy days. I never started a set until i was fully recovered and ready. When you are tired Injury occurs.... and then you become week...and bound by your limitations.

Heres me doing the 40kg Bent press... keep an eye out for that 44kg :)

So Train Smart! Work hard! Become Super Human STRONG!

PS. None of this would be possible if it wasn't for the AWESOME CREATOR that I serve. Phil 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Sure I had an awesome coach... But God ordained that connection. HE Kept me healthy and allowed me to know when enough was enough in my training. He has placed the most amazing people in my life to get me where I am today. I am so grateful! My prayer is that I will continue to seek him and not allow my own self and limitations to stand in the way. For he is who truly makes me limitless. T

When you are where you are supposed to be.

This weekend is a very monumental weekend for me where the last 8 months...no i take that back 2 years of training are being applied. Its also like a reunion of sorts. So whats this weekend all about? Its my StrongFirst Level 2 certification weekend. 5 weeks ago I would have told you I was so stressed it was making me sick. Today is not the same! I am prepared! I am excited! I am ready!

So we (Mitchell has joined me) arrived in Chicago this morning around 10:30. We were able to check into our hotel early which was super nice! I really wanted to walk to The Dome, the cite where the certification would take place. So we did! Currently the Level 1 candidates were fine tuning the swing! 2 handed, single handed, and double swings! It was a glorious sight. Master Instructor Fabio Zonin was teaching the crew. So we sat and watched for a bit as I reminisced my days at my Level 1 certification. So much has changed since that day! Prior to my level 1 I had trained 1 person. I had observed and interned a lot! But I had one client. Since then I have had more then 100. I have become better! I have sought after advice from those more experienced then I and I have made a promise to myself and to my clients to constantly strive to be better.

I remember checking into my Level 1 and immediately sitting indian style. I was shy, nervous, and wondering if i had what it took to survive this crazy 3 day cert (let alone pass). To my surprise I did pass and it was the birth of a beautiful dream. I have sense made friends all over the country who have a passion for good movement and kettlebells. Its a beautiful community to be apart of.

So back to those current comrades attending their level 1! What I love about StrongFirst is the population it brings! Everyone is unique and everyone is strong. Its ok if you aren't below 15% body fat you are family, and you are there to learn! Its a beautiful site.

My major challenge to myself this weekend was to not be shy... those who know me well have a hard time picturing me being shy but it happens. Well, I can honestly say that today I have conquered this goal and it feels so good! I have already met 6 gentlemen and 1 lady in my hotel who are Level 2 candidates like myself.

And I had a little heart to heart talk with Master Dave Whitley and Mitchell.....for at least an hour! it was great and I'm thankful for his open encouragement and honesty. I know that no matter what the outcome this weekend brings I am where I am supposed to be! Motivated, encouraged, mentored, and ready.

Excited for tomorrow! What challenge did you overcome today?!?

PS. Do you like the new site?!?! Ive been saving it just for you!
